EI WORKSHOP ON COMMERCIALISATION AND PRIVATISATION OF EDUCATION 10TH - 11TH MAY, 2017. ABUJA NIGERIA.

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has stated the resolve of the union to lead the advocacy against commercialisation and privatisation of education in the country.
 
This resolve was made at the Education International workshop on commercialisation and privatisation of Education for members of the Union held on 10th  – 11th  May, 2017.
 
The NUT National President Mr. Michael Olukoya condemned the commercialization and privatization of education  saying the policy had left education in the hands of business and private organistions whose concerns are to make financial gain and profit. Such a system He stressed negates the policy of access to quality education for all.
 
 In a presentation on global response to comercialisation and privatisation of education, Mr. Angelo Gavrielatos Education International project director, exposed participants on the negative effect of commercialization and privatization of education. With the Bridge International Academy as a case study, Mr. Gavrielatos described it as a robotic method of teaching which has failed to impact sound educational knowledge and values to the student. He further assured the NUT of support from EI toward advocacy against this trend.
Over 190 member of NUT across the country attended the workshop.
